The Santa Elena Cloud Forest is a wonderland of green lushness. Giant tree ferns, bamboo and palm trees grow abundantly in the under story, while thick moss covered liana vines dangle from the canopy. Use all your senses to enjoy the frequent sightings of birds and mammals, to hear the song of the Quetzal and the roaring of the Howler monkeys and to identify the tracks of the shy Puma, Coati and Red brocket deer. This tour is one of the most adventures in Costa Rica. Our Canopy tour guides will start by equipping you with the proper gear; then they will take you to our canopy tour courses each with more than of the 12 cables,19 platforms, Tarzan Swing along the way and a total of more than 1.5 miles (3 kilometers) of total cable length on each course.
The canopy tour is one of the best canopy in Costa Rica and is also certified by The Costarican Institute of Tourism. The tour usually takes between 2.5 and 3 hours.
Treetop Walkways is a 1.5 mile(approximately 3 kilometers) trail that crosses through the cloud forest canopy, along this trail our visitors will be able to walk across 8 different suspension bridges that range between 150 to 510 feet (50 to 170 meters)in length and 46 to 180 feet ( 12 to 60 meters)in altitude. Each of these bridges feature a width of 5 feet(1.5 meters) and have a capacity of supporting up to 80 people at one time. This makes TreetopWalkways the most solid comfortable and strongest of the bridge. The tour along the bridges takes approximately 1.5 hours. Activity of suspension bridges is not guided it´s very easy to follow and explore the bridges.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Train

Our adventure begins in the Central Station, a large modern building set in the forest, whose platform houses the loud whistle of departure and arrival of the beautiful locomotive pulling three safe and comfortable cars each.
During the course of approximately 30 minutes and placed in the first car, our experienced naturalist guides provide interpretation of forest and the area in general, traveling 3 km on a railway line to the point of return.
Here we got off and walked a few yards to the viewing. From here, a unique landscape can be admired, with the majestic Arenal Volcano, the lake and the lush and former volcano, Cerro Chato, as the main protagonists. Also, waterfalls bordering the green mountains and distant plains that extend to the northern neighbor country can be seen.
At this point you can capture amazing photos of the breathtaking view and the variety of flora and fauna abounding in this beautiful area. A delicious fresh coffee awaits you, or if you prefer, a steaming chocolate, accompanied by a homemade snack, courtesy of the house.
From this viewpoint, you can also take a guided short hike on the trails, where you will appreciate more about the natural wealth that is home to one of the most famous rainforest in the world.
We will return through the same route, but at a faster pace. However, if any of the inhabitants of this forest makes its appearance, the guide will stop the train for a few seconds to provide information and allow taking pictures of this unforgettable trip.
Each trip has duration of 90 minutes and departs every hour between eight o’clock and four o’clock in the afternoon, for the last train of the day.

Sky Tram is a guided tour and you can have the opportunity of intermediate the ride with short stops to observe the cloud forest biodiversity, the Arenal, Tenorio, Miravalles and Orosi volcanoes, the Nicoya Gulf, and the Guanacaste plain if the weather allows it. It is a high technology cableway that includes a ride of 1600 meters (both ways) with altitudes between 1400 and 1600 m.a.s.l. The Sky Tram will lead you up to the Continental Divide and to one of the highest mountains of Monteverde. The gondolas have been adapted even for people with some disability. Sky Trek tour starts with the Sky Tram that will lead you up to the Continental Divide.
Sky trek is a system of zip lines ranging from mountain to mountain, which together have a distance of 2.5 miles of linear cable. It gives you the opportunity to fly through a cable and have a unique experience of adventure and adrenaline at speeds up to 40 miles per hour with distances ranging up to 2500 feet and heights of 524 feet. In addition the tour offers 5 observation towers that exceed the cloud forest treetops providing a panoramic view. All with total security and in an innovative braking system. Sky Trek is a complementary tour of Sky Tram it can’t be sold separately. Minimum age for the sky trek: 8 yrs. old.
